Wet-Process-Modified Blue-Green Algae Biochar by K2FeO4 for the Efficient Adsorption of Cr(VI) from Water

Iron-modified biochar adsorbent shows its promise for removing Cr(VI) from water. However, the traditional dry-grinding modification methods to prepare iron-modified (DFeBC) usually result in aggregation of iron oxide particles, thus impeding adsorption capacity. Herein, blue-green algae waste derived modified a wet process by K2FeO4 (WFeBC) was developed, and it showed well-distributed on surface biochar. As result, WFeBC displayed larger theoretical capacity 66.22 mg/g than that DFeBC (48.54 mg/g). It found uniform-distributed abundant oxygen functional groups played an important role removal Cr(VI). In process, reduction Cr(III) Fe(II) promoted hexavalent chromium. The will be attracted protonated through electrostatic interaction complexation acid environment.
